Massimo Levrero is Professor of Gastroenterology and Hepatology at the University of Lyon (UCBL1) – Hospices Civils de Lyon and he leads a Research Unit at the Centre de Recherche en Cancérologie de Lyon (CRCL). He has acted as Scientific Secretary of EASL and he is president of the CCS12 Basic Hepatitis Research Committee at the French National Agency for Research on AIDS and Viral Hepatitis (ANRS). He is actively involved in clinical research and treatment of HBV and HCV chronic hepatitis and he served as Network Coordinator and/or Principal Investigator in a number of research projects and clinical studies.
HBV research focuses on the epigenetic regulation of cccDNA and HBV replication, the identification of new targets for anti-viral therapy and the molecular pathogenesis of hepatocellular carcinoma. He is the author of over 190 publications in major peer-reviewed journals, including Nature, Nature Medicine, Science, J Clin Invest, J Exp Med, Nat Cell Biol, Mol Cell, PNAS USA, EMBO J, Gastroenterology, GUT, Hepatology, J of Hepatology.
